Police are seeking help from the public in finding the gunman who shot and paralyzed a 15-year-old Watts boy as he played basketball with a group of friends.

Curtis Plaire was shot several times in the upper torso at 8:48 p.m. on Sept. 27 on the basketball courts in the Hacienda Village housing project in the 1500 block of 104th Street, said Det. Gregory Grant.

The boy lost one kidney and is paralyzed from the waist down, Grant said. He remains hospitalized.

“There were no words exchanged. No gang signs. It was without provocation,” Grant said.

Investigators said they have learned that there were at least two witnesses, but no one has come forward.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Grant or Det. Robert Dinlocker at Southeast Division of the LAPD at (213) 485-6902.
