MURDER CHARGE: A 13-year-old boy was charged with murder Thursday in connection with a pipe bomb that exploded Sunday in unincorporated Whittier, killing another teenager.
The defendant, whose name is being withheld because of his age, also faces two other felony counts relating to the possession and detonation of an explosive device. He is scheduled to be arraigned today in Los Padrinos Juvenile Court in Downey.
Prosecutors believe that the victim, 15-year-old Shaun Kelley, may have helped the defendant set off the bomb in the middle of the street in the 12100 block of Eddystone Avenue. Kelley died of his injuries Tuesday at County-USC Medical Center.
