Department Offering Free Tattoo Removal
Ventura County sheriff’s officials will show off their latest gadget this morning --a laser machine that will remove unwanted tattoos from teens and young adults who regret their decisions to get gang symbols or other markings.
Tattoo removals will be offered free to those young adults who want to turn their life around and move back into the work force.
A recent survey by corrections officials found that many inmates are interested in having tattoos removed so they are more employable, said Patricia Funchess, a Sheriff’s Department administrator.
Funchess said the county will share the device with other communities.
“The laser machine will be used from three to four times a month in the jail facilities and will be available beyond that to nonprofit organizations for their use,” she said in a prepared statement.
The first demonstration will be held at 9 a.m. today at the Boys & Girls Club of Port Hueneme, 590 E. Pleasant Valley Road. For information, call 933-8563.
