CHAPMAN TONIGHT

Share

Opponent--La Verne.

Site--Chapman stadium.

Time--7.

Records--La Verne (4-1); Chapman (5-0).

La Verne update--The Leopards bring a four-game winning streak into the game, which many feel will be the stiffest test Chapman will face this season. La Verne dropped its opener to Azusa Pacific, 18-12, but since has beaten Cal Lutheran, Sonoma State, Occidental and Whittier College. La Verne is Chapman’s nemesis, having won thrillers the last two years, 36-34, in 1994 and, 35-34, last season. Running back/wide receiver Anthony Rice has been the offensive mainstay, averaging 150 yards per game.

Chapman update--The Panthers are awaiting a ruling from the NCAA on whether they must forfeit all or some victories because two ineligible players competed in the games. It was revealed this week that standout running back Darnell Morgan was playing a fifth season, which is against NCAA rules. On Thursday Chapman reported that officials had found another fifth-year player on the roster, starting defensive back Malcolm King. With all of the commotion, Coach Ken Visser is just looking to get back out on the field and let his team play some football.
