Three juveniles were in custody Saturday, a day after they allegedly robbed a pedestrian, then shot and wounded a man who chased them after the group drove away from a traffic accident during their escape, police said.

The juveniles, whose ages and hometowns were not released, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder several hours after the Friday night shooting.

Los Angeles Police Det. Larry Minton said the wounded man, whom he declined to identify, was treated at Kaiser Permanente Foundation Hospital for gunshots to his lower body and released.

Minton said that after robbing the pedestrian, the youths drove away from the 7700 block of Woodman Avenue and then collided with another car. Several people saw the collision and the youths trying to get away. A motorist followed the youths and was shot.

“He was thinking he was apprehending people who had just left the scene of the accident,” Minton said. “He didn’t know about the robbery and didn’t know they were armed.”
