Colorado Rallies to Beat Texas

John Hessler replaced injured Koy Detmer and engineered two second-half scoring drives, and safety Steve Rosga made a key interception with 1:35 to play, allowing No. 8 Colorado to hold off Texas, 28-24, in a Big 12 game Saturday at Boulder, Colo.

The Buffaloes, 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the Big 12 Conference, spotted Texas, 10-0, and, 17-7, first-half leads before rallying behind Hessler, who entered the game late in the first half when Detmer suffered a concussion after being thrown to the turf on a sack by defensive end Gray Mosier.

Texas fell to 3-4 and 2-2.

No. 5 Nebraska 63, Kansas 7--Scott Frost threw three touchdown passes and completed 12 of 16 for 254 yards to lead the Cornhuskers over the Jayhawks at Lincoln, Neb.

Frost also ran for two touchdowns for Nebraska (6-1, 3-0).

Kansas (3-4, 1-2) scored in the second period on a 77-yard pass from Matt Johner to Isaac Byrd.

No. 16 Kansas State 42, Oklahoma 35--Brian Kavanagh threw four touchdown passes to tie a Wildcat record and Kansas State held off the fast-closing Sooners at Manhattan, Kan.

Backup Eric Moore threw three of his four touchdown passes in the fourth quarter as Oklahoma (2-5, 2-2) came up short against Kansas State (7-1, 4-1). Chris Canty’s interception with 1:35 to play finished the Sooner rally from a 35-7 deficit.

Kavanagh completed 27 of 38 passes for 342 yards as Kansas State reached the required minimum of six victories over Division I teams to qualify for a bowl.

Texas Tech 13, Texas A&M; 10--Zebbie Lethridge threw an 81-yard touchdown pass to freshman Sammy Morris with 6:20 to play, and Byron Hanspard rushed for 198 yards as the Red Raiders rallied for the victory at College Station, Texas.

The Aggies (3-5, 1-4) took a 10-6 lead in the third quarter on a 28-yard touchdown run by freshman Dante Hall, who had 184 yards rushing.

Texas Tech (5-3, 4-2) got the ball with 6:32 left. Lethridge faked to Hanspard, then connected with Morris behind the Texas A&M; secondary.

Missouri 35, Oklahoma State 28--Quarterback Corby Jones ran for 193 yards and three touchdowns and passed for another, and Brock Olivo scored on an eight-yard run in overtime at Columbia, Mo.

The Cowboys (4-4, 1-4) won the toss in overtime and deferred to the Tigers (3-4, 1-3), who needed three plays to score.

Baylor 49, Iowa State 21--Jerod Douglas ran for 154 yards and two touchdowns and Jermaine Alfred threw for three touchdowns in the third quarter, helping the Bears (4-3, 1-3) erase a 14-point deficit and cruise past the Cyclones (2-5, 1-3) at Waco, Texas.
