Firefighters’ Risks
I was glad to see the front-page article by Geoff Boucher on Sunday, Oct. 20 (“Under a Toxic Cloud”) regarding toxic exposure of public safety workers.
I hope the self-serving politicians, such as Newport Beach Mayor John Hedges and Newport Beach City Council candidate Ron Zenck and the others like them who are constantly attacking the Newport Beach Fire Department, saw the article and were relieved of some of their ignorance.
These firefighters risk their lives and health to do a dangerous job, helping the public and saving lives. I may be biased--my husband is a Newport Beach firefighter.
But I hope the politicians, who spare no opportunity to criticize and take potshots at the Fire Department instead of supporting these public servants, will wake up and smell the toxic fumes.
