Washington Redskin running back Terry Allen and the Buffalo Bills’ defense will find out in Sunday’s game at Orchard Park, N.Y., which one is for real.

The Bills have one of the best-run defenses in the league. Already, they have shut down Emmitt Smith, Marshall Faulk and Curtis Martin.

Allen has been perhaps the biggest surprise in a surprising season for the Redskins, who have cruised to a 7-1 record.

Allen is second in the NFC with 803 yards and is on pace to pass John Riggins’ team rushing record of 1,347 by nearly 300 yards. He also leads the league with 13 touchdowns.

“It’ll be a battle on Sunday, and Terry Allen will definitely be the focal point for our defense,” defensive end Phil Hansen said. “He’s a quality back, and he’s having an All-Pro year. We definitely have to stop Terry Allen before we move on to anything else.”

The New York Giants put rookie wide receiver Amani Toomer on injured reserve and signed running back Gary Downs.
