Nonprofit Group Cites Supervisor Stanton

Roger R. Stanton, who is retiring in December after 16 years on the Board of Supervisors, has been honored by the Southwest Community Center for his years of support for the nonprofit group.

The community center provides 400 to 500 hot meals a day to people in need and handles other services for children.

Fountain Valley Councilman John J. Collins, a member of the center’s board, presented Stanton with a plaque at a recent meeting. “You have been a shining light in helping us help others,” Collins said.

Stanton expressed gratitude for the honor but took issue with one of Collins’ statements.

“John referred to my 16 wonderful years. Let me tell you about the last two,” Stanton said, referring to the county’s bankruptcy.

“I would not describe them as wonderful.”
