A 40-year-old Los Angeles woman was critically injured Monday when she was knocked down and dragged several feet by a school bus at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Western Avenue, the city Fire Department said.

Brian Humphrey, a spokesman for the department, said there were several students aboard the bus but none was injured. The woman, who was not immediately identified, was taken by ambulance to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where officials said she had suffered major injuries to her lower extremities.

The California Highway Patrol said a report on how the 2:40 p.m. accident occurred was not immediately available.
