Birdie Eunice Cook; Longtime Resident

Birdie Eunice Cook, a Ventura resident for 46 years, died Saturday following a lengthy illness. She was 83.

Cook was born March 30, 1913, in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.

A devoted wife and homemaker, Cook enjoyed golf, handcrafts, reading and gardening. She was also a member of various civic groups in Ventura, including the Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile and the San Buenaventura Women’s Club.

Cook is survived by two daughters, Glenda Hammer and Paula Stork, both of Ventura; and three grandsons. Her husband of 56 years, Alfred L. Cook, died in 1994.

A private memorial service will be held today at 3 p.m. at Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.

Contributions in Cook’s memory may be made to the Adopt-A-Book Program at the Ventura College Foundation, 4667 Telegraph Road, Ventura, CA 93003.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ted Mayr Funeral Home.
