In the Empire League:
Cypress 11, Loara 10 (OT)--Cypress' Erik Sandvig, who had four goals, scored with 24 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime, 7-7. Teammate James Hicks made three saves in the second half of overtime to preserve the victory for the Centurions (10-10, 3-2), who clinched a playoff berth.
In the Freeway League:
Buena Park 10, Sunny Hills 5--Adrian Vanciu and Jared Jones each scored four goals for visiting Buena Park (19-8, 5-0), which won its first water polo league championship in school history.
In the Golden West League:
Servite 15, Westminster 8--Eric Kim, Chris Hamme and Steve Thomas each scored three goals for visiting Servite (18-5, 5-0), which clinched the league title.
In the Orange League:
Brea Olinda 23, Western 8--Matt Flesher and Brent Reimer each scored six goals for ninth-ranked Brea Olinda (18-4, 8-0), which clinched the league title.
In the Sea View League:
Newport Harbor 20, Woodbridge 8--John Uceferri and Gary Conwell each scored four goals for Newport Harbor (11-13, 2-3).
In the Sunset League:
Marina 8, Esperanza 6--BugHarkleroad and Justin Fassnacht each scored two goals for Marina (10-10, 4-1), ranked seventh in Division II.
In the Empire League boys' cross-country finals:
Katella boys win seventh consecutive title--Katella's Lucas Neubauer, Danny Mejia and Matt Lavassiur finished 1-2-3 as the Knights won their seventh consecutive league title. Neubauer won in 15 minutes 59 seconds at Irvine Park. Century finished second.
In the Orange League finals:
Anaheim wins--Patricio Mejia (17:00) and Edgar Reyes (17:01) finished first and second on the 3.1-mile course at Craig Park to help Anaheim finish first with 25 points, ahead of second-place Brea Olinda (36).
In the Empire League girls' cross-country finals:
Third title for Katella--Jill Santibanez winning time of 19:13 helped Katella to its third consecutive league title. Teammate Cristal Hernandez finished second and Nancy Pinto was third. El Dorado finished second.
In the Orange League finals:
Brea Olinda wins--Christy Burdett won in 21:28 over the 3.1-mile course at Craig Park for league champion Brea, which had five runners in the top seven.
In Century League girls' tennis:
Foothill 11, Canyon 7--Antonella Nicolini and Chrissy Stanford were the only players who swept their sets, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 for Foothill (9-8, 7-3).
Villa Park 14, El Modena 4--Katey Becker swept, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, for fourth-ranked Villa Park (14-4, 10-0). Claire Gries and Stephanie Chang swept in doubles for the Spartans, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0.
In the Empire League tournament:
El Dorado wins six of eight matches--El Dorado's Melisa Liao defeated doubles teammate Yetee Osunsanmi, 4-6, 6-4, 6-0, to reach the semifinals.
In doubles, McMillan and sister Brittany McMillan, the top-seeded players, advanced to the semifinals.
In the Sea View tournament:
Top seeds advance--Top-seeded Nina Vaughan of Corona del Mar advanced to the semifinals with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Second-seeded Natalie Exon of Woodbridge also advanced.
Top-seeded Emily Barker and Brooke Taylor of Newport Harbor advanced with a 6-4, 6-1 victory. Second-seeded Caylan Leslie and Nadia Vaughan of Corona del Mar also advanced.
In the South Coast League tournament:
Top seeded players advance--The top four seeded singles players advanced to the semifinals, although Dana Hills' Christi Manning extended fourth-seeded Elena Klau of Mater Dei to three sets before losing, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1. In doubles, the top three seeded teams advanced.
