ABC’s ‘Morning’ to Visit O.C.

ABC-TV’s “Good Morning America” will broadcast a live feed from Orange County as part of its coverage of Veterans Day events Monday.

Those attending Veterans Charities of Orange County’s 7 a.m. open house in Santa Ana will be on camera telling the nation, “We’re Veterans Charities of Orange County, and we’re celebrating Veterans Day. Good morning, America,” said Deanne Tate, executive director of the organization.

Monday will also mark the establishment of a new group, Tate said: an Orange County chapter of the national organization Vietnam Veterans of America.

Tate said that, while local veterans have always been able to join the national organization, a new chapter means that they can attend meetings in Orange County rather than traveling to other locations. New members can sign up at the open house, she said.

Elsewhere across the county, people will honor military veterans by putting flags on graves, telling veterans “thanks” in person, saying prayers and pausing for a moment of silence in remembrance.

Robert Key of Anaheim’s Veterans Outreach Center, which works with veterans who have suffered war- or military-related trauma, said the holiday is a time to recall the sacrifices those men and women have made for their nation.

Key, director of the organization, said it is also a time for veterans to reflect on their own sacrifice and commitment to military service.

“I encourage all veterans to take the time during the day that will honor their own service,” he said.
