SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Ouch, that hurt.

No, not the injuries--although they certainly didn’t help.

Rather, it was St. Bonaventure High’s 31-3 beating of Calabasas on Friday night that left the Coyotes ailing even more than before.

Calabasas (6-3) was playing without offensive tackles Jon Ellinghouse (knee injury) and Joe Baik (broken leg). Without their protection, the Coyotes were unable to counter the potent offense of St. Bonaventure (7-1-1).

The Seraphs cruised to a 24-3 halftime lead on touchdown runs of one, 15 and four yards by Andre Pinedo and three two-point conversion passes by Teohua Sanchez.

“We thought we were going to have trouble running the ball on them a little bit,” said Pinedo, who had 129 yards in 23 carries.

“But we ended up running whatever we wanted to.”

Pinedo helped St. Bonaventure pile up 434 total yards--262 in the first half--when Calabasas was limited to 83 yards. The Coyotes finished with 197 total yards.

Sanchez completed 18 of 29 passes for 209 yards and a 30-yard touchdown to Joe Byrum, who had four catches for 50 yards.

Pepe Villasenor caught seven of Sanchez’s passes for 87 yards and Bryce Johnson had four for 32.

Robby Coppola rushed for 91 yards in 18 carries for the Coyotes.

David Rosenberg kicked a 44-yard field goal for Calabasas.
