Myers Scores 16 in Exhibition Victory

Bob Myers’ 16 points (on eight-for-eight shooting) led the Bruins to a bumpy, bruising, less-than-artistic 71-44 victory over the German National Team before 5,485 Thursday night at Pauley Pavilion. Only 24 seconds into the game, bothered by his team’s slow jog downcourt that allowed a German layup, UCLA interim Coach Steve Lavin called a quick timeout for an attitude readjustment. “I was just upset with them running the floor,” he said. “Effort and competition has to be a constant for this team to be great, and I wanted to address it, or else it could become a bad habit of us not coming out of the gate.”

After last Tuesday’s three-technical performance in an easy victory over Athletes In Action, the Bruins did not incur a technical foul Thursday. UCLA opens its season Wednesday against Tulsa in the first round of the Chase-NIT.
