USC Fans Wonder, What’s Going on Down There?

Share

I’ve attended every USC home game since the 1964 season. Without a doubt, this season wins the award as the most frustrating I’ve ever seen.

The USC group that consistently never lets up is the Trojan marching band. I vote to suit them up. Let them play the rest of the games if the team can’t be bothered.

Every time I think a once-proud USC football program has hit rock bottom, the next game presents an even more uninspired, unemotional, unprepared and totally inept performance. Champions improve each week, Coach Robinson, they do not deteriorate.

Where is the spirit of Troy? Does this team go into the locker room at halftime and take tranquilizers to relax? Or is it a different USC team playing the second half?

This week’s article by Earl Gustkey, “USC’s Collapse,” certainly gave an overview of what we’ll hear at the end of the season:

If USC beats UCLA and Notre Dame, Coach Robinson will be considered a genius.

If USC wins one of those games, it will be a successful season.

If USC loses both games, Robinson will step forward, shoulder the blame, replace some assistant coaches, predict a national championship for ’97 and regain “genius” status.

USC lost to Washington because of poor officiating. Brad Otton threw 16 incomplete passes and the ref didn’t call even one of them a touchdown.
