From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Clutching her infant daughter at an emotional New York reunion a day after car thieves unwittingly drove off with her baby, Tiffany Winfield had a message: “I just want to say to all the mothers who can learn from my mistake, ‘Don’t ever do this,’ ” the Willingboro, N.J., mother of two said. Winfield, 23, had frantically chased after the car as two men sped away with her 11-month-old baby, Jazmine. Winfield had left her sleeping in an infant seat while she went inside a restaurant to get a takeout order. The mother left the car running, setting the stage for the car theft, kidnapping and a round-the-clock search for the girl. The car was found abandoned and unlocked in New York’s borough of Brooklyn. Jazmine, who appeared to have been fed and well taken care of, was still in her infant seat.
