Free Fingerprinting, Photos for Children

As part of an ongoing effort to protect young children in Camarillo, Ventura County sheriff’s deputies on Saturday will host KidPrint ‘96, a free fingerprinting and photography campaign designed to identify kidnapped children.

Sponsored by the city of Camarillo and several local businesses, the event is free to children between kindergarten and the third grade.

More than 1 million children are reported missing each year, said Senior Deputy Dan Place, who is helping to coordinate the fingerprinting and photo session.

“The KidPrint program is designed to provide authorities with emergency information and a current photograph to increase the chances of finding the missing child,” Place said.

Deputies will be on hand Saturday in the community room of the sheriff’s station in Camarillo, 3701 E. Las Posas Road, between the hours of noon and 3 p.m.

Officials will not keep the fingerprints or photographs on file. Rather, they will be given to parents to keep as a permanent record.
