TONIGHT’S GAMES

NONCONFERENCE

* CAL STATE FULLERTON at BRIGHAM YOUNG

Time--6 PST.

1995-96 records--Fullerton 6-20, BYU 15-13.

The season opener will mark the first time Fullerton has played BYU since winning the Cougar Classic championship in 1986. The Titans are 2-2 against Western Athletic Conference teams in the last two seasons, winning twice against San Diego State and losing twice to Utah. BYU doesn’t figure to be a WAC title contender this season after Bryon Ruffner quit the team during the summer. He averaged 18.8 points last season. Two other starters, 6-9 Jeff Campbell and 6-7 Justin Weidauer, are back. The Titans have more depth and experience than in the last two seasons. Senior forward John Williams (14.2 points a game) and junior guard Chris Dade (12.6 points) are the key players returning. Williams had 32 points and nine rebounds Monday in an exhibition game against Global Sports. Junior transfer Craig Whitehead will make his Titan debut as a starting forward.
