City to Crack Down on Unlicensed Pets

Share

Pitching it as a way to save a bit of cash, Thousand Oaks is asking residents to license their dogs before the end of the year.

Starting in January, Thousand Oaks license canvassers will be combing the city, charging a $20 penalty on top of the regular fee to license dogs. The normal licensing fee for dogs is $30 for those that have not been spayed or neutered and $10 for those that have been.

So pet owners who do not play by the rules will be playing the odds, gambling against the chance that they could be forced to pay more money later. All dogs 4 months or older must be licensed and vaccinated for rabies.

Licensing pets helps owners in case the animals wander from home, and it also lets other people know that the pet is vaccinated, said Brenda Young of the city’s Public Works Department.

Owners may license dogs at the Agoura Animal Shelter, 29525 Agoura Road, in Agoura Hills, Monday through Thursday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Licenses can also be obtained at the city’s Finance Department in the Civic Arts Plaza from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

For more information, call the city of Thousand Oaks at 449-2446 or the Agoura Animal Shelter at (818) 991-0071.
