Ex-Officer Proposes Equality in Army

Army culture and banning women soldiers from direct ground combat are factors behind the service’s sexual harassment scandal, a retired female Army major said. Lillian Pfluke, a West Point graduate who spent 15 years in the Army, said the solution is to make women soldiers equal. Secretary of the Army Togo D. West Jr., appearing with Pfluke on ABC-TV’s “This Week,” said a valid argument could be made for women in combat but added that the decision is up to the public and Congress.
