Ban on Saturday Night Specials Urged
Like other many cities throughout the state that are banning handguns, Long Beach is considering an ordinance that would stop the sale of Saturday night specials.
Margaret Blair, an 87-year-old Gray Panther, and Sharon Loeschen, who finally had her fill of the sound of gunshots in her local park, have joined with City Councilman Alan Lowenthal to write a proposal that would ban the short-barreled, small-caliber firearms.
Earlier this year, West Hollywood became the first city to pass an ordinance banning the sale of Saturday night specials. Similar measures have been passed in 20 cities, including Los Angeles, Compton and San Francisco.
