Ventura County notched its 44th bank robbery of the year Tuesday morning, when a diminutive, unshaven bandit held up an Oxnard Bank of America branch, authorities said.
The man passed a note demanding cash to a teller at the bank at 1855 N. Oxnard Blvd., said Gary Auer, supervising agent of the FBI’s Ventura bureau.
The man claimed to have a gun, but did not show it and dropped a few bills as he ran out of the bank.
“The FBI believes this is a first-time bank robber in the county,” Auer said. “We don’t have anybody out there right now that matches his description.”
The 5-foot-4-inch robber is believed to be about 20 years old, weighs 155 pounds and wore a black T-shirt under a short-sleeved checkered shirt, a black baseball cap and blue jeans.
Last year at this time there had been 42 bank robberies in the county, Auer said.
