Daily Named Mayor for the 6th Time

With the unanimous vote of his council colleagues and a stiff swing of a wooden gavel, Stanley J. Daily took the reins as mayor of Camarillo for the sixth time in the city’s 32-year history.

Daily accepted the position, which is largely ceremonial, amid the cheers and congratulations of two newly elected members of the council, Kevin Kildee and Bill Liebmann, the top two vote-getters in the Nov. 5 election.

“It’s always nice to do what the council wants,” Daily said at Tuesday night’s meeting. “I enjoy leading the council. It’s lots and lots of fun.”

One of the city’s founding fathers, Daily was elected to the first City Council in 1964, when Camarillo became a city. He served 16 years before calling it quits, only to seek and win reelection in 1990.

“We have a very positive council and some very positive capital projects,” Daily said. “I’d like to see them completed.”

Councilwoman Charlotte Craven was selected vice mayor.
