A subsidized preschool for the children of inner-city Los Angeles was dedicated this week.

Los Angelitos (Little Angels) Children’s Center, a collaborative effort of the Los Angeles Unified School District and the city’s Community Redevelopment Agency opened in July and has 79 pupils.

Located across the street from the Convention Center in downtown Los Angeles, the preschool provides education to youngsters ages 2 to 5 who come from low-income families, said Principal Manuel Caldera. Parents must also be either employed or in school and live in the Central City or Pico-Union area.

The dedication ceremony, which took place last Monday, was attended by City Councilwoman Rita Walters, CRA Commissioner Peggy Moore, Board of Education member Barbara Baudreaux and other city officials.
