Share

The first Conejo Valley Hanukkah Festival is scheduled Sunday at the Thousand Oaks Community Center, featuring music, dancing and food.

The celebration--part of a trio of Hanukkah festivals taking place in Ventura and Los Angeles counties--is funded in part by grants from the Jewish Federation Valley Alliance, along with money from area synagogues, Jewish community centers and nonprofit groups.

Admission is free, but participants are encouraged to bring a new unwrapped toy to be donated to Jewish charities.

The festival will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the community center, next to Thousand Oaks High School at 2525 N. Moorpark Road.

A candle-lighting ceremony is set for 2:30 p.m. The celebration features Judaic singing duo Cindy Paley and Cantor Kenny Ellis, as well as the Shpieler Troupe in Hanukkah Lights, a musical theater piece. It also includes performances by local children’s choirs, Israeli folk dancing, mimes and magic, arts and crafts, a holiday boutique and food.
