LAPD to Begin Giving Good Drivers Tickets--to the Movies

Share

A police car with red lights flashing and siren screaming tailing you? If you’re driving on the Westside and are showing particularly good driving behavior, the officer just may want to issue a reward instead of a citation.

Los Angeles police officers from the West Traffic Division will begin issuing free movie passes to good drivers today in an effort to promote safe driving during the holiday season.

The movie passes, accepted at two major theater chains, are good for two people.

“Usually when someone gets stopped they just about have a coronary,” said Leron Gubler, executive director of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which arranged for the tickets. “This time, they will find out they are getting a present.”

Officers will be on the lookout for drivers who come to a complete stop at stop signs, make safe lane changes, wear seat belts, obey speed limits and are courteous to pedestrians, bicyclists and other drivers.
