Small Plane Skids Off O.C. Runway
A single-engine airplane skidded off a runway during a Wednesday night takeoff at John Wayne Airport, forcing the closure of a runway for more than an hour.
Two unidentified people were aboard the 1991 Beechcraft A-36 at 7:15 p.m. when its landing gear retracted before the small plane left the runway, County Fire Capt. Scott Brown said. The crumpled plane skidded more than 200 feet, he said.
No one was injured, and commercial flights were not affected, Brown said.
A crane was used to clear the debris, and National Transportation Safety Board investigators were investigating the incident.
