Long Beach State played its best game so far Tuesday night in a 68-56 nonconference victory over Oregon State at the Pyramid. Coach Wayne Morgan hopes that performance starts a positive trend as Long Beach State opens in a tournament hosted by Purdue. “I want to see if we can keep it up,” Morgan said. “That’s the test.” Guard James Cotton leads Long Beach State with an average of 26 points while making 62.1% of his shots from the field. Guard Bruce Simms leads Mercer in scoring, averaging 19 points.
