Caltrans, OCTA Move on Freeway Project

Share

Caltrans and the Orange County Transportation Authority are launching a four-year, $1.1-billion project today that will widen and improve the Santa Ana Freeway in North County.

The kickoff will be at 10 a.m. at the park-and-ride lot at Orangethorpe and Magnolia avenues in Fullerton.

Improvements will nearly double the width of the freeway from six to 10 lanes, including carpool lanes, and revamp the interchange of the Santa Ana and Artesia-Riverside freeways.

The freeway improvement project, when completed in 2000, is expected to reduce congestion, add capacity and improve overall freeway traffic conditions.

Construction, which will cover the freeway through Anaheim, Fullerton and Buena Park, is expected to begin Monday with temporary ramp closures at Magnolia and Orangethorpe avenues.

The southbound freeway ramp at Magnolia will close for about nine months. The northbound freeway ramp at Orangethorpe will close for about four months. Detours on local streets will be marked for the two ramp closures.

Information about the construction project is available by calling the OCTA Helpline at (714) 724-2077.
