Duck update--Slowly but steadily, they are climbing out of a 1-9-2 October hole. Monday’s 5-2 victory over the Boston Bruins improved the Ducks’ record to 9-6-3 since Nov. 1. Goaltender Guy Hebert should be fit to play tonight after he was accidentally hit in the head by a stick Monday. He was replaced late in the second period by Mikhail Shtalenkov, who stopped all 11 shots he faced. Winger Teemu Selanne has a team-leading 17 goals and 21 assists and has quietly moved among the league scoring leaders. He also has a six-game point streak.

Penguin update--Former Duck Alex Hicks scored his first goal as a Penguin, which also was the go-ahead goal in Pittsburgh’s 5-3 victory over Anaheim on Saturday. Jaromir Jagr and Mario Lemieux each had a goal and an assist in the game. Jagr had a league-leading 27 goals in 27 games before Tuesday’s game against the Kings. Lemieux also is among the NHL scoring leaders with 12 goals and 36 points before Tuesday. The Penguins were undefeated in their last seven games (5-0-2) before Tuesday. Goalie Ken Wregget suffered a bruised shoulder last Friday and did not start Saturday against the Ducks. Rookie Patrick Lalime stopped 30 shots in his first NHL start.
