Two teenagers gunned down in Bowling Green Park were identified Wednesday as Jeremy Ryan Foster and Thang Cong Nguyen, friends from the same neighborhood, police said.

Foster and Nguyen, both 18 and both Fountain Valley residents, were shot to death about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in what appeared to be an ambush-style attack off Parkview Avenue near Bowling Green Street in Westminster, authorities said.

The pair were standing near their vehicle when one or more assailants fired from six to 12 shots, striking both men multiple times, Westminster Det. Terry Selinske said.

Nearby residents heard the shots and called police, who found the bodies sprawled on the ground behind a dark green sports car registered to Foster’s father.

“We’re still trying to figure out why they were there,” Selinske said. “There are many more questions than answers at this point.”

Police said Wednesday they do not have any suspects or a motive yet. Autopsies are scheduled, but authorities said they would not release the results right away, citing a pending investigation.

“We can’t give out a lot of information because we’re still investigating, and the suspect or suspects are still out there somewhere,” Selinske said.

Homicide detectives sought permission from Foster’s father, Craig Foster, to search the car for evidence today. They also combed the crime scene and interviewed family members and friends who might have seen the pair right before the shooting, Selinske said.

Craig Foster last saw his son at home Tuesday afternoon, and Nguyen’s parents last contacted their son the same day, police said. Craig Foster declined to be interviewed Wednesday, saying he was not ready to talk about his loss.
