Irvine Science Alliance will host a “Science Career Options Conference” for 400 middle school students Tuesday at UC Irvine.

The conference is aimed at encouraging students from Irvine Unified School District to enroll in more math and science classes in high school and to raise awareness about the many jobs in the work force that require technology backgrounds.

Sally Ride, the first U.S. woman to travel into space, will be the keynote speaker.

Students also will have the opportunity to attend career seminars on such topics as architecture, computers, medicine, aerospace, oceanography and geology.
