Dale Teacher Helps Students Feed Needy

Share

Social studies teacher Bob Hayes believes some traditions are worth carrying on.

This is Hayes’ 21st year helping students at Dale Junior High School in Anaheim raise money to buy groceries for 35 needy families. The seventh and eighth graders usually raise about $3,000 in donations, which they use to buy food for the holidays.

School staff will help students purchase groceries and deliver them Thursday to 25 families who live in the district and to 10 elderly people referred to Hayes by Tender Loving Care, a charitable group that provides food to seniors.

Hayes said he has had many former students come back and tell him the holiday grocery delivery was their most memorable experience at the school.

“We want them to see what other people have and don’t have, and how lucky we are to have what we have,” Hayes said.

The school will be collecting grocery money through Tuesday.
