Police said they arrested a burglary suspect Friday after he crashed his vehicle into a sound wall on the Riverside Freeway while trying to evade authorities.

No one was hurt, said police officers who arrested 25-year-old William McCabe of Anaheim on suspicion of auto burglary, auto theft and evading arrest. The suspect was booked into Fullerton City Jail, Police Lt. Geoff Spalding said.

Police said a witness spotted a man trying to break into a car parked at an apartment complex in the 3200 block of East Yorba Linda Boulevard in Fullerton about 8:30 a.m.

When he saw that he had been observed, he fled in another car, police said. The witness then called police with a description of the vehicle and its license plate number. The car was a late-model Toyota Celica Supra that had been reported stolen.

About 20 minutes later, a police investigator in an unmarked car spotted the Toyota and called for a police cruiser, Spalding said.

When the squad car flashed its lights, police said, the suspect pulled to the side of the road and slowed, but then accelerated onto the westbound side of the freeway.

Police said they followed the suspect, who began driving on the freeway shoulder before bouncing off another car and crashing into the sound wall near State College Boulevard.
