Some Kinds of ‘Wonderful’

If you love “It’s a Wonderful Life,” you probably won’t want to be without the golden-anniversary snow globe.

To commemorate the film’s 50th year, Republic Home Video has released three editions of the movie as well as a deluxe laserdisc.

The uncut version, which includes special collector’s cards, goes for $14.98.

“The 50th Anniversary Edition” ($19.98) includes a “making of” featurette, the original trailer and an audiocassette of “It’s a Wonderful Life: The Christmas Album.”

“The 50th Anniversary Deluxe Collector’s Edition” ($79.98) features a personal remembrance from Frank Capra Jr., the original trailer, a “making of” documentary, Jeanine Basinger’s “The ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ Book” and a “Christmas Album” CD.

“The 50th Anniversary Laser Disc” ($59.98) includes the Capra remembrance, the documentary, the trailer and the CD.

Jimmy Hawkins, who played George Bailey’s son Tommy, is the author of the lavishly illustrated “It’s a Wonderful Life: The Fiftieth Anniversary Scrapbook” (Running Press, $14.98). In addition, Karolyn Grimes (who played Zuzu) and Frank Dohanyos have penned “Zuzu Bailey’s ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ Cookbook” (Birch Lane Press, $18.95), featuring recipes and anecdotes inspired by the movie.

Finally, the Time Warner Sound Exchange catalog ([800] 521-0042) offers a limited-edition “It’s a Wonderful Life” pocket watch ($125), a framed reproduction of the movie poster ($40), a ladies’ watch ($55) and a musical snow globe ($75) featuring Bedford Falls (“Merry Christmas, you old Building & Loan!”) and playing, of course, “Auld Lang Syne.”
