Bill Lindsay scored the go-ahead goal while Florida was short-handed in the second period, and the Panthers defeated the Edmonton Oilers, 6-3, on Sunday at Miami to stop their first two-game losing streak this season.

Florida got goals from six players as it matched its season high for goals. Edmonton, winless in four games, dropped to 0-4-1 against the Panthers.

With the score tied, 3-3, Lindsay stole the puck and created a two-on-one breakaway with Tom Fitzgerald, who had scored on the first shot of the game. Relief goalie Bob Essensa stopped Fitzgerald’s slap shot, but Lindsay picked up the rebound and scored on a backhand at 7:22.

Vancouver 8, St. Louis 0--Alexander Mogilny notched the 11th hat trick of his career, Pavel Bure had two goals and three assists and Corey Hirsch stopped 42 shots for the Canucks at St. Louis.

The margin of defeat tied the Blues’ record for their worst shutout loss, an 8-0 defeat by Boston in 1974.

The Canucks led, 3-0, after the first period on goals by Mogilny and Bure. Mogilny scored his first at 11:02 on a backhand shot from the left circle after taking a pass from Bure.

Detroit 3, Toronto 1--Sergei Fedorov capped a three-goal burst in the second period as the Red Wings defeated the Maple Leafs at Detroit.

Fedorov’s fourth goal in five games was one of three Detroit scores on successive second-period shots after goaltender Felix Potvin had stopped Detroit’s first 32 shots.

Philadelphia 6, Boston 0--Ron Hextall stopped 28 shots at Philadelphia for his 16th career shutout and 250th victory as the streaking Flyers defeated the Bruins.

With Saturday’s 4-0 victory over Hartford with Garth Snow in goal, Philadelphia posted consecutive shutouts for the first time since last March.
