Lindros, Flyers Still Streaking

The Philadelphia Flyers, getting two goals and an assist from John LeClair, overpowered the Oilers, 6-4, Friday night at Edmonton to extended their unbeaten streak to an NHL-best 12 games.

Philadelphia (10-0-2) took a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Joel Otto and Dale Hawerchuk.

Flyer captain Eric Lindros also drew an assist on LeClair’s second goal to extend his scoring streak to 12 games. Lindros has nine goals and 11 assists in that stretch.

Dainius Zubrus and Paul Coffey added goals in the third period to bury the Oilers.

Edmonton got late goals from Miroslav Satan and Andrei Kovalenko.

Dallas 6, Boston 4--Joe Nieuwendyk and Mike Modano scored on the Stars’ first two shots as the team continued its best start in the 30-year history of the franchise at Dallas.

Former Bruin Dave Reid had a goal and two assists to tie a career-high three-point game, and Jere Lehtinen added a goal and an assist for Dallas. Pat Verbeek and Grant Marshall also scored goals for the Stars, and Modano contributed two assists.

The Stars are 6-1-2 in nine games, 22-11-3 for the season.

Andy Moog had an easy night with 17 saves to register his 343th career victory, tops among active goalies.

The Stars took a 3-1 lead into the first intermission despite only seven first-period shots.

Phoenix 7, Vancouver 4--Defenseman Deron Quint scored two goals, including the game-winner on a fluke shot early in the third period, for the Coyotes at Phoenix.

Keith Tkachuk, Mike Gartner, Jeremy Roenick, Cliff Ronning and Jim Johnson also scored for Phoenix, which won for the seventh time in its last 11 games.

The Coyotes took advantage of Canuck goalie Kirk McLean, who was playing for the first time since undergoing knee surgery Nov. 14. He gave up three goals in the first seven minutes of the third period.

Meanwhile, the Coyotes rallied after pulling starting goalie Darcy Wakaluk in favor of Nikolai Khabibulin with 8:12 remaining in the second period. Wakaluk was beaten three times on 18 shots.

Toronto 3, St. Louis 2--Felix Potvin stopped 35 shots--including 18 in the second period--to lead the Maple Leafs at St. Louis.

Potvin is 12-5-4 in 22 career appearances against St. Louis. His performance spoiled the evening for 20,100 fans, the largest crowd of the season at Kiel Center.

Todd Warriner, Doug Gilmour and Jamie Baker scored for Toronto.

Robert Petrovicky and Joe Murphy scored goals for St. Louis.
