Spread the Blame in Hospital Dispute

Share

Re: “Joint Venture Suggested for Warring Hospitals” (Dec. 18).

I agree with Supervisors Maggie Kildee and John Flynn that a public apology from Community Memorial may well be called for. But, hey, as long as we’re playing this variation of the blame game, let’s be fair.

First to publicly seek forgiveness from taxpayers should be the county Health Care Agency. In an era where, across the nation, all public agencies serving the poor are strapped for funds, they decided to turn adversity into opportunity by transforming the county hospital into the newest and biggest hospital in town.

Next to publicly atone should be the members of the Board of Supervisors who gleefully attempted to sneak two separate county hospital expansion projects costing $56 million and $29 million respectively past the county’s taxpayers.

I think that some sincere apologizing all around would be good for the soul and appropriate to the season.
