Al Pacino won a best actor Oscar for his larger-than-life performance as a blind, bitter ex-Army colonel in the sentimental 1992 comedy-drama Scent of a Woman (ABC Sunday at 8 p.m.) Chris O’Donnell manages to hold his own with Pacino as a quiet prep school student who gets more than he bargains when he agrees to be his companion over a holiday weekend. Remake of the 1974 Italian film starring Vitorrio Gassman.

Bruce Willis is back in the 1990 blockbuster Die Hard 2 (CBS Sunday at 9 p.m.). This time around, Willis finds himself fighting international terrorists while waiting for his wife’s plane to land at Dulles Airport in Washington D.C. You won’t believe a minute of it, but director Renny Harlin has staged several incredible stunts. Bonnie Bedelia and Franco Nero also star.

Ron Howard directed 1994’s The Paper (NBC Sunday at 9 p.m.), a disappointing drama chronicling four hours in the harried lives of the editors and staff of a struggling New York paper. A terrific cast--Michael Keaton, Marisa Tomei, Robert Duvall and Glenn Close--can’t disguise the fact this glossy melodrama is literally much ado about nothing.

Anthony Edwards and Forest Whitaker star in the 1990 buddy flick Downtown (KTLA Friday at 8 p.m.). The pre-”ER” Edwards plays a naive cop who is transferred from a suburban area to a tough Philadelphia neighborhood where he’s teamed up with a loner (Whitaker). Richard Benjamin directs.

John Wayne fans are still upset over the the Duke’s 1972 Western The Cowboys (KCOP Saturday at 8 p.m.) because the larger-than-life hero is murdered at the conclusion by none other than Bruce Dern. Wayne is his usual sturdy self as an aging rancher who is forced to hire 11 young boys to work his cattle drive. A Martinez and Robert Carradine also star.
