Lyle Menendez Got Married in Jail, Prison Officials Say
Lyle Menendez, one of two brothers imprisoned for life last year for murdering their wealthy parents in Beverly Hills, got married in prison more than six months ago, the California Department of Corrections said Friday.
A spokesman at the Tehachapi Prison said Menendez and Anna Eriksson were married July 2 by Judge Nancy Brown while he was in the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles awaiting sentencing.
At the time, the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department had stepped in and said the couple could not marry in the facility, citing security concerns. For that reason, it was assumed the ceremony never took place.
However, Tehachapi spokesman Jack Pitko said Eriksson had recently visited Menendez at the Southern California facility and showed authorities their original marriage certificate. A copy was made for Corrections Department records, and the marriage is therefore officially recognized, he said.
Because Menendez was sentenced to life in prison without parole, he does not qualify for conjugal visits.
