One man died and another was hospitalized Saturday after a car slid off a freeway embankment, overturned and struck a pedestrian on the street below, the California Highway Patrol said.

The accident, which police suspect was alcohol-related, occurred at 7:23 a.m. on the southbound Hollywood Freeway, just before the Magnolia Boulevard offramp, said CHP spokesman Ken Lane.

“The vehicle went off the freeway, down an embankment, through a fence and then across Magnolia Boulevard onto a sidewalk where it struck the pedestrian,” Lane said.
