Opportunities for Volunteering

Share

The J. Paul Getty Museum is accepting applications for volunteers and docents to work at its new Getty Center, opening in December. Docents will give architecture and garden tours, help visitors in the museum’s learning centers and lead storytelling sessions for children. Docents work weekly 2 1/2-hour shifts on weekdays or three-hour shifts every other weekend. Volunteers work three hours a week, welcoming visitors, answering questions about lectures and other programs and helping with special projects. The deadline to apply to be a volunteer is Friday. To volunteer, call (310) 230-7075. The deadline to apply to be a docent is March 14. For a docent application, call (310) 230-7231.

The volunteering network doingsome-thing, needs volunteers for a tree planting event in the North Hollywood area Feb. 22 and a food delivery for homebound AIDS patients Feb. 23. The group helps find short-term volunteering opportunities in the Los Angeles area for busy professionals. Projects are usually three to four hours long on Saturdays and Sundays. Activities are listed in a monthly newsletter that costs $10. For more information, call the doingsomething hotline at (310) 391-3907.
