Share

Boy Scouts across Ventura County will spend Saturday gathering food for hungry families.

In celebration of its 76th anniversary in the county, Boy Scouts hope to collect 76,000 pounds of food.

Uniformed Scouts will be knocking on doors between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. asking people to donate whatever canned or dry goods they can spare.

More than 7,900 Scouts are expected to participate in the annual Scouting for Food drive, which also coincides with the Boy Scouts of America’s 87th anniversary.

“Scouting for Food collects food for needy families in Ventura County and helps replenish food banks which are in short supply after the big holiday food push,” said Alan Walker, event chairman.

Items collected from each town will be donated to a food bank in that area.

During its eight-year history, the Scouting for Food service has distributed more than 150 tons of food to organizations that help families in need.

Residents and businesses interested in participating in the event may call the Ventura County Scouting Service Center at 482-8938.
