Woman Who Alleges Egg Theft Gives Birth to Boy

Share

A woman who alleges that eggs stolen from her during the UC Irvine fertility scandal resulted in another woman’s twins has given birth to a baby of her own.

Joshua James Jorge was born Sunday to Loretta and Basilio Jorge of Corona.

Several years ago, the Jorges tried unsuccessfully to have children with the help of UC Irvine fertility specialist Dr. Richardo H. Asch. Later, they discovered evidence that they contend proves that some of Loretta Jorge’s eggs had been given to a Riverside woman who eventually gave birth to twins.

The Jorges have a lawsuit pending against the Riverside couple to win custody of those twins, according to Loretta Jorge’s lawyer, Melanie Blum.

But the child born Sunday came without any help from either legal or medical sources.

“It just happened,” Loretta Jorge, 37, said. “This is a miracle for us.”
