Utilities Dept. Wins Conservation Awards
The city’s Public Utilities Department has won two awards from the California Municipal Utilities Assn. for its innovative energy and water programs.
The 1997 Resource Conservation award recognizes California consumer-owned utilities for their excellence and innovation in energy and water conservation.
Anaheim received one award for its Energy Sale for New Construction program. The program encourages commercial and industrial customers to use energy-efficient equipment by offering financial incentives to offset the cost to install equipment in such areas as lighting, heating and air conditioning.
The second award was in the water category for the city’s park irrigation modernization program. With the installation of the new irrigation system last year, about 40 million gallons of water will be saved each year, officials said.
