Leader’s Discuss Military’s Future
Ventura County’s top military officials met with members of the Greater Oxnard Chamber of Commerce for the first time Thursday morning to discuss the economic impact and future of the military in the county.
Capt. Dan Hambrock of the Naval Construction Battalion Center at Port Hueneme, Capt. Stephen Beal of the Naval Air Weapons Station at Point Mugu and Brig. Gen. John Iffland of the California Air National Guard each briefed the audience on the specifics of their bases and their mission in Ventura County. Nearly 75 people attended the breakfast briefing at the Oxnard Hilton, organizers said.
Some of the topics of discussion included the privatization of utility services at the Seabee base, increasing cooperation between civilian and military research and keeping the bases viable in an age of military cutbacks.
“We feel that (the military) contributes ad has a great impact in our community,” said Florence La Manno, president of the Chamber of Commerce . “We want to become more active between our civilian and military groups.”
