Tanker Overturns, Leaks Waste Water
A tanker truck hauling 1,000 gallons of waste water from a drilling site overturned at the top of Grimes Canyon Road on Monday afternoon, leaking petroleum-laced water through a hole that was punched in its side in the accident.
The Ventura County Fire Department sent a hazardous materials team to the crash site to contain the spill, which threatened to leak into Grimes Canyon, a Fire Department spokeswoman said.
No one was injured in the accident, which officials said was unrelated to the day’s light rainfall.
The road was briefly closed while the spill was cleaned up.
The cause of the accident, which occurred at a sharp turn in the mountain road, is under investigation.
