An Anaheim man shot and killed by police in a local parking lot remains the key suspect in the slayings of a Corona woman and her grandmother, police said Wednesday.

Police believe Juan Hugo Gonzales killed his 18-year-old girlfriend, Patricia Phum, and her 76-year-old grandmother, Maria Caceres, in their Corona home Tuesday morning before fleeing to Orange County. Police still have no motive in the slaying, Corona Police Sgt. Kelly Evans said.

“We are still trying to piece together the various scenarios,” Kelly said.

Tuesday afternoon, plainclothes police shot and killed Gonzales after he allegedly pulled a gun on a Corona investigator attempting to question him about the double slaying, authorities said.

Gonzales worked at an American Food Stores distribution center across the street from East Cerritos Avenue parking lot where he was killed. Gonzales had been a warehouse worker there since 1991.

The Orange County district attorney’s office is investigating the shooting, a routine procedure in officer-involved shootings.
