Cal Loses a 24-Point Lead but Not the Game, 73-66

Guard Ed Gray scored 22 points, his 10th consecutive game of 20 or more, as California came back after blowing a 24-point lead to defeat Oregon, 73-66, Thursday night in a Pacific 10 Conference game at Berkeley.

California, 17-6 overall and 8-4 in the Pacific 10, has won eight of its last nine games and 16 in a row at Harmon Gym.

Oregon (14-7, 5-7) went scoreless for eight minutes to fall behind 30-6 but eventually took the lead at 54-53 on guard Henry Madden’s three-point basket with 9:30 to play. The Ducks managed just three points the next eight minutes and the Bears made six consecutive free throws in the final minute to seal the victory.

No. 22 Stanford 87, Oregon State 54--The Cardinal (14-6, 7-5) ended a losing streak at three games and avenged a Jan. 18 loss to the Beavers (6-15, 2-10) at Stanford.

Guard Kris Weems scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half to allow Stanford to pull away for its seventh consecutive victory at Maples Pavilion. Guard Brevin Knight had 11 assists, two more than the entire Oregon State team.
